Fonts are one of the most critical tools in any designer’s toolbox. With clever use, you can transform a design from humdrum to extraordinary. So to inspire you, every month, we put together this collection of the best new fonts we’ve seen in the previous four weeks. March’s edition includes chunky type, some experimental typefaces, and a subtle approach to the Art Nouveau trend we’ve followed for the last few months. Enjoy!
Merisca
Merisca is a condensed serif that would work well for branding luxury goods or for poster or editorial design. It features some elegant alternate designs that bring the shapes to life.
Family
Family is a lovingly detailed modern serif. It is based on the early 20th-century typeface Clearface. The updated version has been rethought for contemporary use.
Natri
Natri is a display face inspired by calligraphy. The expressive strokes have been replaced with a consistent angled approach that creates a 3D effect at larger sizes.
Atica
Atica is inspired by German geometric sans serifs. It is unapologetically engineered. The typeface has just had Light, and Extra Light weights added.
Acorn
Acorn is a beautiful sans-serif that combines simple shapes with vintage-inspired strokes. It’s a minimalist approach to the Art Nouveau trend that we rarely see.
Inflated Foil
Inflated Foil is an unusual typeface utilizing color bitmap font technology. It’s 3D-rendered with a glossy metallic finish that looks like foil balloons. It would make a great poster.
TT Commons Pro
TT Commons Pro has been updated to include new compact styles and a variable font. The geometric sans serif is highly usable for a variety of design applications.
MC Belotra
MC Belotra is a display face with graceful curves and understated serifs. The low-contrast strokes and chunky terminals create a confident but relaxed typeface.
Aberford
Aberford is the ideal choice to convey a sense of John Wayne-era True Grit. It’s perfect for branding companies selling whiskey, denim, or tools.
Prelo Pro
Prelo Pro is an updated and extended version of the popular Prelo typeface. It’s legible on screens and is neutral enough to pair well with display-sized fonts.
Ducktail
Ducktail is an interesting combination of display and sans-serif type. It features an angled stroke on the end of some characters that feels reminiscent of brush calligraphy.
Sonja Zanet
Sonja Zanet is a nicely drawn typeface that’s an excellent choice for posters and editorial work. It has extremely rounded shapes, giving it a friendly feeling.
Neureal
Neureal is a reverse-contrast typeface created collaboratively with computer-generated shapes based on visual distortions. It has regular and monospaced versions.
Figra
Figra is a modern sans serif that’s ideal for branding design. It has nicely rounded corners and smooth shapes that soften the formality of its letterforms.
Kanakira
Kanakira uses ink traps to create a sense of three dimensions within its letterforms. It’s a versatile sans-serif that works well for editorial design.
